theatre company

Artemis Theatre Company is based in London and was founded in 2002 by Clare Summerskill who is currently the Artistic Director of the company. Its aims are to produce and perform professional theatre particularly for marginalised communities within society who are not served by more mainstream and commercial areas of theatre.

Over the years Artemis has made its name concentrating primarily on verbatim theatre productions, whereby a number of people are interviewed about a particular subject and a script is created using the contributors’ own words and then performed by professional actors. Artemis occasionally produces other kinds of theatre and, as with the verbatim plays it stages, these pieces are also created for and about people from marginalised groups in society.
